mythmedia:21 is a production studio dedicated to developing projects that use the power of myth and media technologies to address critical inquiry and cultural concerns of the 21st century. We believe today’s cultural milieu and its underlying mythology serve as the blueprint for the world of tomorrow. The visual landscape is essential to this blueprint. As catalysts of culture throughout history, artists have been the world’s architects of image, ideology and change. mythmedia:21 sees artists and media-makers as messengers of the age heralding undeniable signs of the times.
The Escape Artist Initiative (EAI)---currently the lead project of mythmedia:21--is a community-based public art, awareness and activism campaign with local and national outreach goals based on a 3-fold agenda.
- Raise awareness of local and global threats to civilian safety and well-being
- Educate and train communities in multi-purpose emergency preparation and survival techniques
- Inspire hope, healing and positive transformation through art, activism and meditation
A key goal of the Escape Artist Initiative is to combat fear-based media campaigns aimed to disarm and disillusion mass consumers of visual culture. Fed Terror TV on almost every channel, the average media consumer is left anxious yet apathetic about the future. Through creative and critical pedagogy designed to cultivate media and mythic literacy, EAI empowers and equips communities to deconstruct old, dysfunctional realities and construct them anew with myths and visions of their own design.
